Fluted Walnut Penthouse

Almost every vertical surface here is fluted. Walnut in the living space, cream lacquer in the kitchen, dark timber in the bathrooms — the same profile at three scales, which is what makes rooms with quite different palettes feel like one apartment.

The kitchen is deliberately restrained against it: pale handleless fronts, a black stone island with a mitred edge, and a single arched pendant run instead of the usual line of downlights.

The bathrooms are where the material gets loudest — full-height dark stone, a fluted vanity and a stone-clad bath — because they are the rooms you are in alone and can afford to be dramatic.
