Sunken Lounge Residence

The lounge is dropped a step below the main floor, so the joinery around it works to two datums — the upper floor for the tall storage, the lower for the seating and the media.

Walnut lines the walls with brass inlay set into the joints, a detail that has to be machined into the panel rather than applied over it.

The kitchen is black stone and dark timber, deliberately the most restrained room in a house that is otherwise quite rich.
